In this webinar, Austin Windsor, Communications and IT Specialist with the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency, walks viewers through the County’s use of Veoci for emergency management. Austin details how his team has digitized processes previously managed through paper documentation, creating a digital emergency management system that enhances efficiency, transparency, and response coordination. Key applications include managing hazmat spill responses, tracking incident reports, overseeing public safety during large events, and coordinating mass casualty resources with local police. The system also includes a QR code-based check-in for classes, inventory management, and real-time tracking of equipment and personnel.
For specific events, such as the “Rock the South,” a 4-day concert event hosting over 100,000 people per day, Austin developed a Veoci dashboard that supported traffic monitoring, weather updates, and communication among multiple Incident Command locations, improving situational awareness and event coordination. Additionally, the system provides comprehensive solutions for managing the inventory and maintenance of radios, sirens, and other emergency equipment.
A key aspect of the platform’s success has been Austin’s approach to getting his team on board. Rather than imposing the new technology, he has worked closely with department heads to understand their needs and then build custom solutions that clearly demonstrate the value of the system. This has helped overcome initial resistance and has fostered a collaborative environment where new ideas and improvements are continuously generated.
Looking ahead, Austin and his team plan to further expand the use of Veoci, with a focus on integrating the city schools into the system. They also maintain strong relationships with other Veoci users in neighboring counties and agencies, allowing for the sharing of best practices and innovative ideas. Overall, Marshall County’s emergency management system stands as an impressive example of how Veoci can be leveraged to enhance preparedness, response, and recovery capabilities.
